DONATIONS TO THE PICTURE

FUND.

'Already a good start has been made to .reach the goal set by the municipality. '/The decision of the City Council to grant >£1000 for this purpose conditional on citizens raising .£SOOO was arrived at just oh the eve or the Easter holidays, and therefore up to the present very little has been done amongst the commercial community in furtherance of the project. However, the organisers have not been idle, and as a result of a slight canvass amongst private citizens, the sum of £132 has been collected. A lot of work has been done, too, which will bear good fruit ■in due course. But an earnest appeal is' mado to each and every citizen, to all sections of the community, not to wait to" be asked, but to give their help freely and generously to bring this National Gallery movement to successful fruition. Contributions may be forwarded direct to Mr. J. D. Gray, 75 Grant Eoad, who will acknowledge them in due course.
