(By Telecraph.—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, April 9. The Scotch concert held at the Opera House last night, under tho auspices of the Mauawntu Caledonian Society, was a great success. There was a very largo audience, which was most enthusiastic, and nearly tho whole of (he items were re-demanded. The society had taken care to get an excellent programme to* gether, comprising songs, dances, etc., and tho entertainment was pronounced by far the best it has organised. Twenty-nine members of the Mnnawatu Motor Cycle Club competed in the trial to Wellington end back yesterday. Several minor mishaps occurred on the journey, but all but'six of the starlers reached their goal here last night. The result of the trial will not be known for a few days. Tho bowling tournaments organised on their respective greens by the Palmerston and Terrace End Clubs were continued yesterday, but tho heavy rain which fell compelled the cessation of play._ It was intended to got off tho remaining games this morning, but the rain continued throughout last night, and all this morning, putting play quite out of tho question. Taking advantage of the Premier passing through Palmerston yesterday, Mr. M. A. Eliott, president of the Chamber of Commerce, waited upon him. with the object of arranging a deputation to the Minister for Railways in connection with matters affoctiiT? the Pnlmerston railway station.
