(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston North, April 8. The Easter meeting of, the Feilding Jockey Club took place before tho largest attendance 'in the history of (he club. Keen racing was the predominant feature, but the day ended badly, and,, just before the Cup was run, rain came on and continued nearly all the afternoon. After the Kawakawa Hurdles tho stewards held an inquiry into the riding of Leolanter by l'\ Lind, but it was adjourned for decision until to-morrbw. In the Hack Race Lady Volga and Galtee were the popular selections, with Ngakawa next. The latter won rather easily from Galtee, with Aviatrix a poor third. Galtee was in front to the turn, where Xgakau had his measure. The favourite got out well, and had every chance to win, but was not good enoilgli. C. Price, rider of Galtee, got his face damaged by coming into contact with his mount's head, but ho was able to ride later in tho day. The Flying Handicap was a most interesting race, and it is difficult to say who would win if it were run again out of Gladiole, Ineuru, Makara, or Hcrmia. The lirst-named was hustled the whole way, and was stone cold at fifty yards off the ' post. Ineuru got badly left. Makara was in trouble dawn the back, and Hernia also got chopped out by Gladiole soon after the start. Hermia was the first to move, but Gladiole soon headed her, and led till half-way down the straight, where Hcrmia camo round and appeared to be winning easily, but .Makara put in a wonderful run, and only succumbed by a ueclc. ■ , Esparlero and Winiata were withdrawn from the Open Hurdles, the public fastening on to Captain and Leolanter. Xavier was first out, but was steadied, and Compass took clnrgc, the pace being slow. Down the back a forward move was made by several runners, and tho Held bunched across the bottom. Then Stevens shot out, and put a break on the field, but ran down his fences, and Captain took charge. Tho latter' lost his position several times in quick succession, but generally jumped to tlia front again. Stevens led at the second fence from home, and, coming on, i stalled off challenges by Reumac and 1 Waterworks. Several others finished close I up, theso including Leolanter, Silva, Passive, and Captain. To Ru and Matapouri were the scratching in tho Hack Hurdles, the favourites ' being Cornelian, Seaman, and Ambrosian, ' and they finished in that order. At tho ' start Canadian nnd Silver Cluse led. Ambrosian made a faulty jump and was near- ' ly down. Passing (he stand Silver Cluso ' was in charge, but he fenced .badly, and ' Ambrosian, who bad come from the rear, joined hiin as they ran down tho back. • Silver Cluso was done witn. across the boltoin, where Cornelian and Seaman ran to the front. The little Hawera pony had too much pace for Seaman, and won I comfortably. Clemency was just behind Ambrosian. , , „ ~ ; The only withdrawal from the Cup field was Aberbrothock. The Rover was 1 made favourite, with Mangaroa next. - The first-named ran a crcilitablo race, . but. the Hastings mare was soon in trouble, and was last but one as they 1 passed the post. Hatch rode .a perfect - race on Undecided, and was never off the 1 rails. Tho Winter Cup winner scored • most comfortably, aud it would be diffi- " cult to estimate how much she had iu • hand, but it looked like anything from 14lb. to 211b. The early running was made bv Ulilundo and Mangaroa, but the latter dropped back early, and down tho back was in tho company of Queen of Scots and Eclogue. Julian nnd Manawakalia we're forcing the pace at tho five furlongs, with Undecided on the rails in third position, and Tho Rover and Queen of Scots next. Across the botlom tho race was in .safe keeping, and, in tho t straight, Hatch let tlii* big horse out, and he won iu the easiest possible fashion. " Julian finished well, anil was unlucky not 0 to be second, as his rider was slopped \ when attempting (o gel up on the fence, and had to go round, nhlauilo.
