(Before Mr. W. G. Ricklcll, S.JI.) THE GIKL'S TROUBLE. THEFT OF TWO SOVEREIGNS. At tho Magistrate's Court on Saturday a case was called in which a domestic servant, 18 years ol' age, was charged with tlio theft of two sovereigns from a person living in the' place where she was employed. Accused, who was on bail, did not l appear when the Court sat, and it was decided to issue a warrant for her arrest. f Yesterday morning the case was called again, and defendant appeared and pleaded guilty to the charge. Sergeant Darby stated that tho explanation made by the defendant was that she had stayed at Petono on Friday night, and on Saturday morning had missed a train which would liavo brought her to Wellington by 9 o'clock— th<j hour at which tho Court sat. She had caught the next (raisi, and had reached the Police Station shortly after 10 o'clock. The girl, lie added, intended to give up her associates, go to work, and return the money by instalments. His Worship advised accused to "go straight" for the future, and to "stick to employment" when she got it. Defendant was convicted and ordered to appear for sentence when called on. She was required to refund the money, and was' given two weeks in which to do so. "BRUTAL ASSAULT." For unlawfully assaulting Sarah Falloon (who appeared in Court with her head bandaged), Albert Hansen was sent to prison for six weeks. Sergeant Darby described the assault as a brutal one, and added that this was accused's third appearance before the Court for assaulting Falloon. OTHER CASES. Archibald Fabling was fined for breaking tho peace of Ghuznee Street, no pleaded not guilty, and declared that ho had been interfered with by another man. William Henry Whitcrod pleaded guilty to a charge of using certain language at Athletic Park on Saturday. Sergeant Darby said that defendant had previously borne a good character, and respecting this charge had complained bitterly of the language which another man had used towards him. Defendant was fiiied £2. For insobriety, James Stewart was fined .£l, prohibited, and warned to beware of a sojourn at Roto Roa. For breaking prohibition orders John Redmond O'Donogliue and Patrick Rice were each fined .£3. MOUNT COOK COURT. At the Mount Cook Police Court yesterday, before Mr. T. S. Lambert, J.P., tho following cases of drunkenness were dealt with Charles Anderson, bailed out, but. not appearing, was fined 10s. or 18 hours' imprisonment; James Thompson was fined ss. or 2+ hours in gaol; James Keys was convicted and discharged i Denis Close, bailed out, no appearance, was fined 10s. or 48 hours' imprisonment; John Taylor was fined 10s. cr 18 hours in gaol; Patrick Joseph M'Glym and Arthur llukne.v were each convicted and discharged; John Stewart was fined as. or 18 hours' imprisonment,
