A section of the National Conference sharply criticised the Miners' Federation Executive, but thcro is a general impression that tho situation must bo accepted. Tho minority includes North England, with tho exception of Northumberland. A party of strikers wero sca.rching for coal in a disused mine at i\ T antymoel, Glamorganshire, Wales, when a hugo fall occurred, and two of the men wero killed. A hoy was killed in another place. Thero havo been several similar, accidents recently. , Tho coal-owners havo declined further to discuss the demands of the Monmouthshire and South Wales cnginomen and stokers. Strikers at Newbridge, Monmouthshire, invaded tho pit-heads and forced strikebreakers to cease work, despite the police. Other disturbances have taken place at Rotherham, in Midlothian, and in West fife, but' they were not serious. Many trade unionists allege that tho railway companies, in consequence of tho ccal strike, tro discharging prominent union leaders, particularly on the Metropolitan and Central London Railways. Mr. Keir Hardie, Labour M.P., is distributing dSIOO to necessitous miners. Tho money was contributed by the Western. Australian Timberworkers' Union.
