ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

HEXKY CLEMEXTS'S DEATH. Yesterday morning Mr. W. G. "Ridtloll, S.M., held an inquest concerning the death of Henry Clements, a newspaper seller, who was found dead near the entrance to the Queen's Wharf on Thursday afternoon. Evidence was given by Leonard John Jones, who had known deceased for about three years. Ho stated that, deceased had not nppeared to be in good health lately. At about one o'clock on Thursday witness had spoken to Jones, askinsf, "How are you getting on?" To this Jones had replied: "All right, boy." An hour later Jones had found Clements dead. The verdict was that death was due to syncope. This was in' accord with testimony given by Dr. Fyffo. COLLISION AT HUTT. A serious accident occurred on the Hutt Koad last week. At about five o'clock on Tuesday last, Mr. David Jones (manager for Messrs. Ito*s and GlenilinW in Wellington), accompanied by.his "wile and daughter, were driving alo'ng the road, when the flap came into violent collision with a runaway hur-e attached to an express. The vehicle driven by Mr. Jones was overturned, and its occupants were thrown to the ground with great force. Mr. Jones sustained concussion of the brain, and has been lying in a critical condition for some days. He is now progressing satisfactorily. Mrs. Jones was also somewhat severely injured. Miss Jones sustained a bruised arm.

TRAM MISHAP. At 7.30 on Saturday evening, William Plymouth Drown was knocked down by a trnmtar in Lnmbton Quay, near tho Public Trust offices. The police report states that ho was crossing tho road, and when ho saw the tram approach he hesitated, with tho result that the car struck him. 110 was taken to Mi 1 . Mec's pharmacy, and Dr. Henry was summoned, and it was then found that ho was suffering from concussion of tho brain and several ruts about the head. About half an hour after the accident ho regained consciousness, and was taken to the hospital. His injuries aro not serious. Tho car was bound for Island Bay, driven by Motorman Hoy, and in charge of Conductor Alain. A passenger on the ■car states that the vehicle was stopped with exceptional promptitude. GUN ACCIDENT. Ernest Lynneberg, of Ngaio, aged 16, met with an accident on Saturday which resulted in the loss of an arm-. 'He was camping at Titahi Hay, and was going rabbit shooting, when a gun which he carried was fired through a twig 'catching on tho trigger. The bov just got his hand on the top of the muzzle of the gun as tho explosion occurred. The hand was very badly injured. He was taken to the Wellington Hospital, where the arm was amputated below tho elbow.
