CATHOLIC CLUBS.
THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. The eleventh annual conference of tho federated Ciitholic Clubs of Nov Zealand was held in St. Patrick's Hall on Saturday and Sunday. His Grace Archbishop Redwood opened the conference, and waa supported by the Very licv. Dean Reg. nault, 8.M., ami Fathers O'ConncU (mis. siouer), Vemiing, and Herring, S.M.'s, Tlio following are-the representatives of the clubs:—Messrs. S. Carroll (Auckland), L. Carroll (Onolninga), W. Sullivan (Waihi), H. M'Kcowon (Wostport), G. Deo Thames), E. Byrne (Otahuhu), T. J. Sullivan and B. Sheahan (St. Benedicts, Newtown), B. A. Guise and C. Cotter (St. Anne's, Newtown), W. Tiller (Blenheim), M. O'Kane (Christchureh), W. Brvaut (Ashburton), B. Legdon (Timaru), T.'Tiller (Tcmuka), L. Burnes (Queenstown), and C. A. Cormino (Greymouth). Messrs. J. M'Gowan (chairman) and J. L. Leydon isecrelary) represented the federation. , , ~ Mr. J. M'Gowan, Y.l\, welcomed tho delegates to conference. Tho reports, which were read by tho delegates, disclosed great activity among tho various Catholic Clubs of New Zealand. It was decided to appoint federal organisers in various centres of the Dominion. Tho conferenco unanimously decided to inaugurate a challenge shield for competition bctweon the affiliated clubs, lllfl competitions, which will be lidd in connection with (lie annual conference, will be confined to literary, debating, and alhletio contests. , It was resolved that the delegates prosent recommend to their clubs the, Caroful perusal of the pamphlet on Socialism ami tho Catholio Church, recently issued bv Archbishop Hod wood. 'The report and balance-sheet, wluea was adopted, showed that 2fi clubs wero now affiliated, with a total membership The election of officers resulted as fol-lows:-l'resident General, Archbishop Redwood, S-M.; president Mr. 11. M'Kcowciii vice-president, Mr. .1. Mtuiwan: treasurer, Mr. 0. A. Carmine:; secretary. Mr. J. I. Leydon: executive, Messrs. 'S. 11. Casey, T. J. Sullivan, and B. During their stay in Wellington, the delcat.es are being entertained by Ino Wellington Catholic Club. To-night they will he entertained at a banquet in bt, Patrick's Hall.
