Farmer.* in the Wainla district are pluming themselves upon the excellent crops which they have secured this season, the oats, which nre only just being threshed, yielding up to 82 ami 81 bushels per acre. Two cases of failure to attend military drill were called at the Court this week, Captain I'owles appearing to prosecute. The magistrate asked if (he military authorities proposed to take any notice of the recent decision in Wellington, in connection with these eases? Captain l'owles replied that be had no instructions from the Defence Department. Tho magistrate replied that he proposed to take notice. It would be very unsatisfactory to have conflicting decisions at different places. The authorities should go further into the matter, and get it definiVly settled. Ho proposed to adjourn tho prosent ca?es for a month.
Tho championship of flic Feilding Tennis Club was decided this week. An cxcitiiig, contest resulted in n win for Onglov li.v two panics out of three. Lawson won the first game by o—4. Onglcy secured the second by G—3. nud the third by (i—2. Onglcy is now champion of both tennis clubs in Feilding.

Two men—John M'lntyre nnd Thomas Tate—wore arrested at Manakau on Tuesday night, the former on ti charge of breaking ami entering, and the theft of Roods from the business premises of Mr. Howard Andrew, and the latter on a chargo of using certain language and breaking a lamp. 11l court, M'lnlyre pleaded guilty to stealing the goods, but Tate denied breaking the lamp, although he had thrown stones at it. The former was commilled to the Supreme Court for sentence, whib Tate was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for bad language and one month for breaking the lamp, tlie.se sentences to be concurrent. .Miss liiglis, postmistress. at Manakau, resumed clutv this week after six weeks' holiday. Miss Moir (Wellington), who has been relieving, has returned to the head oliice. The monthly sitting of the local State School Committee was held on Monday oveiiins, Mr. W. Keogan presiding. It was decided to elfect certain improvements at the school, and to raise the salary of the caret a leer. Jt was decided to recommend to the Education Board the appointment of Mi>s Hill, vice Miss Jacob, who has resigned.
