Mr. K. Meuli was to-day waited on by a largo and representative deputation, which asked him to contest the Mayoralty, lie promised lo give en answer in a day or two, but, from the (rend of his remarks to the depuration, it is considered practically certain that he will be a candidate. Mr. C. E'. Mackay, ex-Mayor, will also ooiitpst Ih;. , ollice, making the dismissal of the engineer the issue.

Mr. C. M. Strouts, accountant of the Wanganui branch of the Bank of Xew South Wales, has Iteon transferred to the Dunedin branch, and will be succeeded here by Jlr. Heighten, of Hastings.
