THE CANADIAN FLEETFOOT.
Mr. Coombcs has received and published an interesting letter from Jack Tait, tho Canadian runner, who won the distance event at the Festival of Empire sports, and as the Canadian makes a proposition of direct local import, in addition to his reference to other matters of interest, some extracts from his epistle are nppondod. Tho remarks on indcer running are particularly interesting, lie writes:— <
"Canada is beginning to look forward to tile Olympic Games in Sweden, and as 1 received notice this morning that unless something unforeseen turns up, I will be a member of the team, I thought I would drop vou a line regarding the matter you spoke to me about when in England last summer regarding n trip to Australia. Next suininu , will bn my last in athletics, as I have ;i!jout dseidrd that I will have to settle down to business, or, at least, give less time to sport, and ns this is the cafe I would very much like to make next summer a coed one, and 800 a 'little of tho world if possible. Yen mentioned tho possibility of going to Australia and New Zealand, and making a tour for a matter of four or live months, and I was wondering if you could arrange something of the kind for me right after the Games in Sweden, to that 1 could continue the trip from Sweden to Australasia. Now, this may not b? possible, and I don't want to give you any unnecessary trouble, ami will iiot be disappointed if yon cannot arrange something of this sort for me, but just thought, in view of our former conversation that I would write to see how things stood. I have relatives in Tuolamba— wherever (hat is—(Australia), ,111(1 have always had an idea that I wiuld like to eea your country. ... "YVc will likely have a team of between fifteen and twenty men at Stockholm, and I believe we will have a better one than wo have ever bad before, as our men are gradually securing the nrccssary experience that is essential in big contests of this sort. I b?Heve tho majority of the team will bo picked without trials, and, where it is necessary, trials will bs mode. However, as we can only start outdoor training hero about May, it is not considered advisable to get the men trained for bard trials, and then have them "o stale before the real race coiiics along.
