MARANUI SURF AND LIFESAVING CLUB.
At Lyall Bay on Saturday .afternoon last (lie Mavanui Surf and Life-saving Club held a teams' competition consisting of the Land Drills of the Eoyal Life-saving Society and of rescue work with the lifesaving reel. The champion team proved to be that instructed by Mr. S>. I'. Chapman. The fastest time with the reel was put up by Mr. W. C. Collier's team, which effected a rescue of 150 yards in a rolling surf in fij minutes (including 1 minute resuscitation after the patient had been brought ashore). The competition was a complete success and is the first of its kind in Wellington. Tho examiners, Messrs. G. 5.,.Hi11, C. T. Arthur, and E. M. Minifie, expressed themselves as delighted with the good work of tho instructors in bringing their men Id such a high state' of efficiency. There wore, very few points between any of the teams entered. During Sunday afternoon the club gave exhibitions of land drill and reel work. ■'
