LAWN TENNIS.
DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. Tho quartorlv meeting of the council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, adjourned from February 27, was held last night. Mr. 11. M. Gore (vicepresident) occupied the choir during the first part of the meeting, and Professor Hunter in its later stages. A special meeting of f.ho council was also hold with tho object of considering the following motion, of which notice had been given bv Mr. H. Brown (Canterbury):— ""That in the opinion of this council the New Zealand championships should be held only in the four principal citi*.*, «1ternatclv in the South and North Islands, and that in tho event of the championships being held in another centre than Wellington, then tho conduct of tho meeting should be delegated lo the local association." lit Mr. Brown was not present, but a motion, proposing to restrict tho championships to tho four principal cities, was proposed by Mr. Hurley and defeated. Mr. Hurley then moved:— "That, a North Island nnd South Island singjes championship for ladies and gentlemen bo established, at a cost not exceedin" twenty guineas, to provide for permanent trophies, to bo played for yearly at tournaments approved by tho council, but so that they shall not clash wift the \ew Zealand championship meeting. This motion lapsed for want of a seconder. An application by tho Hnwke s Bay Association for tho 1012 New Zealand championships wa.s referred lo the Management Comniittco for favourable consideration. '
