The Customs duties collected at the port of Wangnuui for March amounted In .£7331', as compared with £~>722 for the correspondiui; month of last year. The excise dutv was «£2J4, as against .£3Ol for the same month of 1(111. The vital statistics for Wnnganui for March are: —Mirths, -12 (.13 previous March 1; deaths, 1G (!)); marriages, M (10). During March lasl only (wo bankruptcies were filed in the district of whicli Wangnnui is the centre, the total for the quarter just elapsed being 13. flutter is now retailing here at Is. 3d. per lb.
A charge against a local boardinghoiisekeeper to-day, of having employed a Mtchenmaid tjlj hours per week, Instead of 32 as provided by law, was dismissed by Iho magistrate, counsel for defendant raising the point that n boardinghouse is not a restaurant within the meaning of tho Act. An appeal is probable.
