SIR JOSEPH WARD.
PRESENTATION OF ADDRESSES. Presentations were to have been made yesterday afternoon, .bv the stall' of tho treasury Department, to Sir Joseph Ward ex-Mimster for Finance, and to Mr. E. L Mowbray, who lias just retired from the position of accountant, but tho function was postponed to to-day. Sir Joseph Ward is to bo presented with the following address, signed by the officers of tho DeparflV e » t: -'?'Sl't Hon. Sir J. G. Ward tort, P.C., K.C.M.G. Sir-On vour retirement from the position of Minister for Finance, we, the undersigned members of tho stall of the New Zealand Treasury Department, desiro to place on record our gnuelnl appreciation of the kindness, courtesy, and consideration you have always shown us as public servants. Wishing .you and your family every earthly blessing, we remain, yours most' respecflully.-'
Following is the text of an illuminated address winch is about to be presented to Sir Joseph Ward by tho officers of the Public I rust Office, a Department of which ho was in Ministerial control for some years :—"Public Trust Office, Wellington, Starch 20, WV>. The ]{t. Hon. Sir Joseph 0. Ward, Bart., P.C., Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, New Zealand. Dear sir,—The Public Trust Office has tor many years past been under your control as Minister for I'innnee, and, in vie'v of \oiir approaching retirement' the members of tho staff desire to express their appreciation of the kindness and .consideration they have invariably received at your hands anil their sense of the loss they suffer by reason of vour withdrawal. The success of tho office 'they ascribe in great measure to tho wise determination you have always displayed to keep it free from political influence of any kind. To themselves, personally, you have at all times been generous as well as just, and in parting from you officially they' feel that they part from a friend iis well as a Minister. With fc-snt wishes for the happiness of yourself. Lady Ward, and your household, and the earnest Imps thaiNew Zealand will not be permanently deprived of your eminent abilities as aii administrator and a statesman, they subscribe themselves as under."
