Twenty youths were charged to-day with having failed to attpnd the compulsory training course under the Defence Act. Counsel for the defence raised the point that proceedings could not ho taken until the expiration of the statutory year. The magistrate upheld this, contention and dismissed the cases. Harry 'Holland, a Socialist leader, was then charged with having prevented his son from rendering personal service. The magistrate, said ho considered the offeneo a serious one and imposed a fine of iSIOO.
