Aorangi arrived at Wellington from San Francisco, via way ports. ■ She will berth at No. 16 Jorvois Quay to land passengers and diecharge cargo about 7 a.m., and will continue her journey to Sydney at 6 p.m. '. BLUFF HAEBOUR. A SATISFACTORY YEAR. ißy Telegraph-Pros Asso.ilatlon.l Invercarglll, March 28. An interesting report on tho year's transactions has been presented to the Harbour Board by tho chairman (Mr. R. Anderson). He states the total receipts for the year wore £24,457 7s. 7d., being £254 ss. 4d. loss than tho total receipts of 1910, but as that yoar included £1612 lCs. from tho Railway Department as a refund of the cost of the reclamation wall, the actual decrease is £891 15s. 4d. ■ With the exception, of some small amounts, tho whole of this has accrued from the board's ordinary sources of revenue, the amount under these headings being £24,638. It may be mentioned tliat the sum of £702 was remitted from pilotages and rates under the operation of the bv-law which limits the amount paid in dues on any steamer, on any one trip, to £180. The Blutf Harbour Board is the only hoard which lias this provision in operation. When the large expenditure on new •works is undertaken it may be necessary to modify this concession, but while the revenue provides sufficient to meet needs it would be unwise to make any change The total trade of the port during the year aggregated 135,631 tons, an increaee of 3952 tons over 1910. Every item of import? shows an increase, including l general merchandise. 5918 tons; minerals. 1166 tonscoal, 719 tons; and timber, 14.1,910 super feet. Increases are shown in exports of grain, 1668 tons; minerals, 1026 tons; cheese 375 tons; timber, 653,684 super feet; and horses, 100. Decreases are; Merchandise 353 tons; frozen nroduce, 1223 tons; flax, 1C36 tons; wool, 715 bales; and sheep, 690. Had thi' wool season been normal, it is probable that the wool figures would have boon reversed and a substantial increase shown. NOTICE TO MARINERS. UNCHARTED ROCK IN COOK STRAIT. CO.'S LATEST ADDITION. FOl! TUB VANCOUVER TRADE The steamer which Messrs. John Drown and Co., Clydebank, have contracted to build on behalf of the Union Steam .Ship Company of New Zealand will bo SZ2JfI.. long, 66ft. beam, and 37! ft. depth. It is anticipated that (he gross tonnage of this icssel will be about 13,500 tons. She will have accommodation for 276 ilrnt-elasn, 224 e'eeond-class, ami 202 third-class passengers; is to be litteil with combination reciprocating and turbine engines, with a sea speed (fully laden) of 16J to 17 knots. An innovation with regard to this steamer is that four of her boilers are to be fitted for burning oil fuel or coal, and 6ii boilers for coal. Her bunker,? and ballast tanks are constructed with a view to using oil entirely if tho experiment with the four boilers proves satisfactory, and oil is obtainable at reasonable cost in Australia or en route. It is anticipated this steamer will be equal, if not- superior, to the fastest liners running between England and Australia, and, it is expected, will make a trade tor herself. She is to be delivered fn December next, and should take up her running six weeks later in tho Yancovtver trade. The vessel's name has not been decided upon, and it is possible that she may have an Indian title, as a compliment to Canada. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain R. Neville, who lias been in command of the Moeraki for a trip or two, has been granted holiday leave. Mr. Bcveridge, late second engineer of the Maori, who joined tho Kurow as chief engineer, has transferred to the Waipori as chief, in place or Mr. Skinner, who came as far as Wellington in the Kurow.
