It is understood that a Sydney fyndicatc has completed negotiations for the purchase of the wrecked steamer Knight of St. Oeorge, and intends dispatching salvage plant almost immediately. J1 hopes are held out of ljer being refloated, and in the event cf her being got off the reef it is understood t.lie intention is to take lier to Auckland for repairs. The Knight of St. Georpfe, it will be remembered. was en route to Auckland and Sydney from Puget Sound when die grounded near Nukualofa (Tonga). From the first Eieat hopes have been held out by different parties of the possibilities of getting her clear of the rock bed. but wheu the master passed through Sydney some time ago, en route ot London, he expressed fie opinion that she was fast for all time. MAXUKA ARRIVES. An arrival at Wellington from Sydney early yesterday morning was the tlnioii Company's R.M.S. Manuka. Sho left the New South Wales port at 3.30 p.m. oil Saturday last, and experienced fine weather with moderate to light westerly winds on the run across the Tasman Sea. The Manuka liaa on board 103 tons of general cargo for Papeete, and 624 tons for San Francisco. This include'! 70X00 .feet of timber, 573 ingote of tin, and 45E4 cases of onions.
