A deputation from tlio Wellington Citizens' League waited on Mr. J. G. W. Aitkon yesterday, asking him to stand for the Mayoralty next month. Mr. Aitkcn expressed his appreciation of the honour done him, and stated that ho would give a decided answer to-day. '

A Rotorua Press Association telegram slates:—Jlr. G. A. Empson, who has been promoted to the Chief Postmastcrship at Hokitika, has a record of thirty-four years as postmaster, having been placed in charge at Havelock four years after joining the Department in IS7-1. He has beea postmaster here eleven years.
The Gazette announces that, the King's exequatur empowering Mr. E. Focke to act as Consul for Germany at Wellington has been received.
Messrs. A. V. Sturtcvant, W. W. De Castro, P. W. Broughton, and W. Johnston havo passed the spocinl examination prescribed by Section 7 of tho Land Transfer Act, and havo therefore qualified for appointment to offices therein mentioned, Tho Anglican Bishop of Christchurch (Dr. Julius) intends leaving on April 9 on a visit to England, and does not expect to return to Christchurch till about tho end of the year. Dean Harper has been appointed commissary during the Bishop's absence.
