RUGBY MANAGEMENT.

STATE OF THE ATHLETIC PARK. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington "Rugby Union was held last night, when, there ivero present: Messrs. E. 0. Hales (chairman), T. C. Atkinson, D. Weir, AY. I'. Hornig, IV. Hardham, E. Little, E. Dawson, A. E. "Wilson, H. lirnuhart, "W. Perry, J. Burns, and W. G. Talbot (secretary). •Permission was given to the Athletic Club to send a junior team to Woodville and a fifth-class team to "Wauganui at Easter, and to the Wellington Football Club to send a team to Christchurc'h to play the annual match.against the Christchurch Football Club. It was decided to allow St. James's fiftliciass team to play a match against Melrose fifth-class / team 011 Athletic Park No. 2 next Saturday as a curtain-raiser. , In regard to the Miraniar grounds, it was resolved.to take tho necessary steps to put (he shower baths in order at an early date. The matter of putting the jdinimar grounds in order was left in tho 'hands of the Grounds Committee and the secretary. A letter was reoeived from Bro. Virgilius, of the Marist Brothers' School, Boulcott Street, stating his inability to act on the committee controlling juvenile football. Tho letter also offered several suggestions regarding this branch of the ■union's competitions.—lt was'decided to reply to Brother Virgilius expressing regret that he was unable to accept selection, tmd thanking him fur his suggestions. A good deal of discussion took place regarding the condition of Athletic Park, which many members of • the - committee considered to be in an unsatisfactory state, in view of the proximity of the playing season. It appeared that the cricket played during tne past summer has caused one or two bad patches, and there had been a considerable growth, of weeds. 111 addition, the caretaker was at a disadvantage in. having no knowledge of the locality of the drains. One or two members of the committee expressed the opinion that sutiicicnt had not been don© lo the ground during the summer.—On the motion of Mr. Hardham, it was decided that the chairman should personajly interview tho caretaker, with the object of doing the best for the improvement of the ground. It was also decided that cricket should cease forthwith.

'Hales,' Perry, and AVeir wait on the city authorities in order to see if something could not be do no to have the park property. exempted from rates.—Members generally were of opinion that this was n move in the right direction, and tlic motion was carried. t As negotiations are still proceeding between the Kcferees' Association and the union, matters relating thereto were discussed in committee.
