OTAKI NOTES.

To-day tho Horowhemia Horticultural and Industrial Society is holding its autumn show in tho Otaki iowu Hall. The season, with its many changes, high winds, and superabundance of wet and cold nights, IIII.S been anything but favourable to horticulture in its various branches, and it was not anticipated that the show this week would be up to the usual standard. However, taken all round, it is a magnificent show, and a credit to the district. The entry is not quito so largo as 011 some previous occasions, but tho quality «U round leaves little to be desired. Owing to unforeseen circumstances,' and Borne misunderstanding somewhere, the two visiting nurserymen's exhibits (from Messrs. Horton and Wcightiwm) did not come to hand, which was a great disappointment, as the trade displays are always most interesting and beautiful. Pot plants are very nice, though not numerous, while the cut blooms section is 1 a decidedly pretty one. The dahlias, sweet peas, and roses make a specially Attractive show. _ In fruit a very comprehensive display is made, representative of tho district, while the vegetable section is particularly good. The decorative exhibits mako a charming show, and there is keen competition in many sections. The decorated tables are exceedingly attractive.
