Mr. Oliver It. Lloyd, son of Mrs. Margaret Lloyd, of Tanaranki Street, and lately in tho employ of Messrs. Turnbull, Hielcson, and Gooder, died of meningitis on Monday last. The deceased, who was onlv 21 years of ago, made his debut as a violinist at Mr. H. P. Clarke's pupils' concert last year, and gavo promise of becoming a skilled exponent of Die instrument. Mr. Thomas Neave, 8.A., LL.B., who has held'the position of Crown Law Officer under the scheme by which tho legal work of the Crown was two years ago taken up by the Crown I,aw Department, has resisted that position. Mr. Neave has accepted a partnership in tho legal firm of Brown and Dean, of Wellington, from which Mr. 13. Balcoinbe Brown, who has been in failing health, has'lately retired. Mr. Neave has relinquished his duties at tho Crown Law Office and has already entered upon private practice in the firm.

A gathering of representative citizens of Palmerstou North yesterday presented n solid silver tea service to Police-Inspector Norwood, who has been promoted to the West Coast district. A purse of sovereigns was also presented to Inspector Norwood. Eulogistic references were made to tho inspector's services. Special permission was obtained from the Commissioner of Police for the presentation to be made. —Press Association.

At last night's meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board a resolution appreciative of tho services rendered by Mr. H. C. Tewsley whilo he was a member of the board was carried unanimously. Tho chairman (Mr. R. Fletcher) said that ho had received Mr. Tewsley's resignation, and he regretted very-much that they were about to lose him. That, however, was necessitated by Mr. Tewsley's pending departure for Auckland. Sir. Fletcher added tliat Mr. Tewsley had presented (he board with an old chart of Wellington harbour, a very valuable document, dating back to 1811. Tor this, also, it was resolved to formally thank Mr. Tewsley.
