A Generous Gift. The official opening of St. Patrick's Dominican Convent, the bourding-ichool which is being established at Teschcmaker's, near Oamani, by the Dominican nuns, took place on Sunday, close on 10UO people being present for the occasion. The properly, which is the gift of Mrs. M'Carthy and family, of Tesehcnmkor's, comprises '-5 acres, with a 25-roomeil liuust thereon. Of the grounds, some ten acres arc laid out in a magnificent park, in which are growing some of (he oldest English trees in the Oainaru district. The nuns have also acquired a further 2fl acres adjoining,' which brings their tot.tl holding up to 54 acres. The house, which was originally built by the Teschcniaker family in the early days, was acquired by the M'Carthy family as a residence, and lias been used as such until they conceived the very generous idea which they have now put into execution. Madame Mathilde Marchesi. Mine, "uathilde Marchesi, mother of Mine. Blanche Marchesi, has come to London to live with her daughter, says an English paper, as the Mathilde Marchesi School in Paris has been transferred and incorporated with the Blanche Mnrchesi Singing Academy in Maida Vale. The finest testimonial to Mine. Marchesi's gifts as a teacher is the list of pupils who have risen to eminence in their profession. It includes Melba, Calve, lima di Murslcn, Guibranson, Ada Crossley, Blanche Marchesi, and Felice Lyne. "The Boston," Miss Elsie Hull, a young: musician who has just returned to Sydney, says that there has been quite a revival of dancing in London lately. "The 'Boston' has done it.. One never sees the waltz now; the 'Boston' has complptcly taken its place. You dnnco it to waltz music, but against the time. It is a little difficult to get into, but very fascinating when you knowit. And it has completely changed dancing and dances. A few years ago dancing men were as scarce m London as I hear they are now in Sydney. But men are just as keen on the 'Boston' as women, and now there is never any' trouble about partners."
