Proposed Oil .Boring Plant To be inl reduced for the B.ONITHON FREEHOLD . PROPERTY, TARANAKI. 1912 PARKER-MOGUL 20-INCH ROTARY. . Weight 7300 pounds, Gi-inch diameter Mandrels, 121-inoh diameter Grip Rings, S-inch circular Pitch Gear Teeth, 3-inch diameter Rotary Screws, 51-inch diameter Rotary Shaft Bearings, Locking Dogs, Chain Guide, leoessed base" represent important features of this .1912 special 20-inch Extra Heavy Rotarv, for depths up to -£000 feet or for very large diameter holes. ADVANTAGES OF THE PARKER ROTARY DRILLING SYSTEM. Ist—TJho importance of ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE in the matter of formation in drilling, before it is necessary to set pipe or casing iii the hole, will be readilv appreciated'by producers and prospectors, especially in what is called WILDCAT DRILLING, when seeking'oil or gas. ' With the Rotary System of drilling, prospecting or DRILLING AHEAD to ascertain the formation in which to set casing or to locate artesian water stratns, showings of GAS or OIL, before it is necessary to finish tho hole, is accomplished by using a small bit and drill stem, drilling a -SMALL HOLE AHEAD. This gives the producer exact .information, without any danger of mistake, as to tho proper location for setting casing. THIS CANNOT BE DONE WITH .CABLE TOOLS. 2nd-The drilling of a well with the ROTARY SYSTEM, avoiding the setting of pipe until 'hole is carried down to the depth desired, will save en au average of nearly 50 per cent. of. pipe compared with percussion drilling methods. , .3rd T ln drilling with tho ROTARY SYSTEM, the bore hole is made LARGE ENOUGH to set casing, without requiring under-reaming or driving of pipe. ■tth-In Rotary drilling the use of LEAD SEALS AND TELESCOPE SETTING of pipe for a given depth practically finishes the hole with an equal number of feet of pipe to a foot of depth of'well. sth-NO COLLAPSING of drive shoes, NO STICKING OF PIPE or casing when being set. NO CONSTANT MOVING OF PIPE to prevent sticking, as required in percussion or cable tool method of drilling, is necessary when drilling with a ROTARY. Slh—The use'of a. THICK column of MUD, when, boring with the Rotary System, sustains the walls of the bore hole, prevents shattering, caving, or sloughing, so prevalent when drilling through soft formations, with percussion or Cable Tools. Tho Rotary System of drilling makes a perfectly! round hole, does not disturb the walls of the formation and tho constant pressure of the column of THICK MUD sustains the walls perfectly until you are ready to set casing. 7th—ln shale, clay, sand, and gravel beds, so difficult to drill with Cable Tools, the Rotary System'of drilling is tho only practical method at an economical cost, to drill'through such formation. The absorption in loose sand and gravel, under pressure of sufficient quantity of mud, WALLS OFF these stratas and PREVENTS CAVING. When drilling into an oil sand, before setting the KEYSTONE WELL SCREEN, such mud as has been absorbed in the oil sand is WASHED OUT. Only in very rare instances is it necessary to set any casing through a sand, gravel bed, or artesian water flow, before finishing the well complete. Sth—Tho saving in pipe cost over tho heavy weights, required for drive pipe, used in percussion drilling, is an important item, sustaining the walls of the bore hole, with a thick column of mud and' boring a hole of ample size to subsequently set pipe with the Rotary is much more economical than the Cable Tool System r.f drilling in most formations. . 9th-The PARKER BLOW-OUT PREVENTER in connection with the Rotary System, of drilling protects against the loss of a well from high gas or oil pressure, or caving from artesian water flows'or heaving sand.YOU CANNOT DO THESE THINGS WITH CABLE TOOLS 10th—The KEYSTONE WELL SCREEN or strainer prevents the heaving of 'sand, prevents caving of formation above tho oil sand, provides a perfect pumping proposition for any loose oil sand formation. ■ llth T More than TWO HUNDRED MILLION BARRELS of oil have been produced within the past ten j-ears in the oil fields of Texas, Louisiana, and California (U.S.A.), and MANY MILLION BARRELS of oil in Mexico, Dutch East Indies, and-other.sections, from wells drilled with Rotary Tools. ' 12th-<ln- ; any formation 1 containing stratas of rock, the .special..tootsiand- ap- - pliances shown under tho title of CORE HEADS, CORE BARRELS, SPECIAL BITS,' etc., enables successful drilling of rock strata, either by coring or otherwise, without-having- to set pipe and change over to cable tools advisable in cases where the percentage of rock is not greater than the softer formations. In ninny instances the Rotary System is used to great advantago in drilling from the surface down to a depth of 2000-or 2500 feet through shales, clays, and caving material, at which depth large pipe is set and then, when advisable, depending on the hai'dnes*. of .the formation, a com bination outfit is used, tho balance of the drilling being finished with percussion tools. This practice is in voguo quite largely in California and, Mexico. ". 13th—The Rotary System of drilling is being vapidly and widely adopted bv experienced operators throughout the world WHO HAVE HAD THEIR, 'TROUBLES WITH OTHER METHODS. Tho ROTARY System of boring is not an experiment, but a thoroughly efficient, RAPID, and PRACTICAL - method of BORING for GAS, OIL, or WATER, where tho time of drilling and cost, of material is an item. Send us a log or section of your bore holes, and we will be pleased to point out other marked advantages of the ROTARY SYSTEM. The BONITHON FREEHOLD PETROLEUM COMPANY EXTENDED, LTD., having raised sufficient capital to secure a Rotary Boring Plant for Taranaki, are prepared to receive applications for a limi ted number of shaves, not exceeding 1000. Applications to he made at the Company's Office, BANK CHAMBERS, LAMBTON QUAY. WILLIAM MfLEAN, Secretary.
