A sharp earth tremor was felt in Carterton on Monday night at about 5.35 A special train conveying some fifty empty sheep trucks north passed through Carterton early on Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. A. Ramsay, who are leaving Carterton on Wednesday for Hastings, where Mr. Ramsay has been promoted in the Post Office service were farewelled nt a social gathering bv the members of the local Bowling "Club ch I uesrlay evening. During the proceedings occasion was taken to present the guests of the evening with a beautiful silver tea and coffee service. .Mr. Ramsav has been a very enthusiastic member of the club during his lengthy sojourn here. , p ™r to leaving the local Post Office staff, Jr. A. Ramsay was the recipient ot-a set of gold sleeve-links and a gold mounted fountain pen, as a token of esteem from the staff. Mr. H. Miller chief clerk, made the presentation on behalf ot the assembled staff, and referred lo the good fellowship that had always existed Mr Ramsay suitably acknowledged the gut.
