RETURN OF THE ENERGY.
DELAYED BY BAD WEATHER. All anxiety concerning the safety of the steam trawler Energy was set at rest yesterday. The little vessel returned to Wellington at 3.15 a.m. Captain Brown, her master, was very much surprised when ho learned that his absence had occasioned any anxiety whatever, and more so when he heaid that the Opawa had been dispatched in search of tho trawler on Saturday. "Win-, bless my soul," he exclaimed, "I was at Picton on Saturday at 11 a.m., nnd left for Cloudy Bay at 1.30 p.m. It's strange no word was sent across to Wellington. Asked as to what had been done since leaving Wellington at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Captain Brown said: "Wo proceeded straight to Kapiti Island from here, and after having trawled all day anchored for the night. Wo fished all dav Thursday and Friday, but did not catch much. Wo left for Wellington during the evening, and when off Caoo Terawhiti we struck a heavy south-east gale, so I decided to make across the Strait for Picton. We took in water there and left on Saturday afternoon for Cloudy Bay. On arrival we anchored for the night. We commenced trawling at 5 a.m. and carried tin until midnight. We started again at 5 a.m. on Monday and trawled to Wellington." In answer to a question about the weather he experienced, Captain Brown topliod: "Weather! Why 1 have never seen anything like it. It blew a galo from nil round the compass. It was no good for fishing. Tho fish all cleared out to sea. When we were at Kapiti on Wednesday it was beautifully fine, and smooth water, but there was very little fish hanging around. Then it came on to blow from Hie south'ard." The Energy brought in about two tons of fish, the principal linos of which were gurnet, flounders, sole, lemon sole, ling, and hake. An unusual hnul of sharks was landed from a haul o(f Kntiiti on Wednesday. '
