POISONED BY SHEEP DIP. V/airoa, March 25. A boy need two years uiuJit moilths. Allen L. Allison, son of Mr. 1,. C. Allison, of Mangaone, died on Saturday from cutins sheep dip. Tho father laid a packet down and tho boy got hold of it and died in a few hours. At the inquest yesterday a verdict of accidental poisoning was returned. NATIVE DROWNED. Wairoa, March 25, A Native, 30, Willie Jv'on, was drowned in tlio Waikaretaheke liiver yesterday. DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. Auckland, March 25. A yomiß man, Eric JJeunis Haccn, aged 27 yciirs, was given an anaesthetic previous to an operation by a local doctor, but died umiei- iho eii'ccts of the dnii. It is supposed that tho cause of death was heart lailure. In tho caso of Eric Dennis Haeen, who died while under an anaesthetic, the jui'J returned a verdict of death from misad/ venture. AN EX-DOCTOR'S END. Auckland, March 25. nn inquest on the body of Thomas Fi'i'iiley. n;;ed 40 years, evidence was given by a witness, who slated that deceased was a ship's pantryman, but had formerly been a refristem! medical practitioner in London. Witness called to see Fernley at (he Salvation Army Home. Fernloy put out his hand us if to shake hands and fell back suddenly, and expired immediately. FIRE AT~TA!HAPE. Taihapo, March 25. Just before midnight on Saturday a firo broke out in a block of buildings opposite the Post Office at Raclihi, resulting in the destruction of tho premises of Lovedajr ami Co., drapers; Stubbs,, ironmonger| Bennett's tea-rooms; Booth's billiardrooiii; and Goodger's livery stables. The brigade was unable to use the engine o\\> ing to being short of water supply, but excellent service was rendered by a bucket brigade, whereby the adjoining block was saved. A large amount of I.oveday'a goods, and most of Stubbs's, , were saved; also the contents of the tables. The insurances are not yet available. AUCKLAND POST OFFICE. Auckland, March 25. Auckland, March 25. The destruction by fire of Messrs. I'aN ker, Luinb, and C'oV's mill throws practically die whole of the business out of g-sar, and over 100 men are affected. Plant to replace that destroyed has to be obtained from England, and so it will bo several months before the company is in full working order again. The death at the hospital yesterday morning of J. Gailt formed tho subject of further inquiry. It was stated in evidence that deceased was struck on the head by u tree while working in tho bush at Pukekohe, and war, admitted to the hospital on tho ISth instant. His skull was fractured, and up to the time of his death he did not regain consciousness. Tho jury returned a verdict that death was duo to cerebral hemorrhage, following 01 the fracture of Hie skull'. LABOUR UNION AT WHANGAREI. Whangarci, .March '.!5. A union has boon formed at Whnngarc'i embodying all workers not attached td any organisation. A start was made with fifty-three members, and it is expected that this will be increased to a hundred by April 12, when the next meeting'will bo held to consider whether to register under (ho Arbitration Act or the Trades Inion Act. Tho following resolution was passed: "That tin's meeting protests against the action of the Auckland City Council in refusing to recognise tho principles of unionism, and wishing success to. the Labour candidate for tho mayoralty." ROWDYISM AT CADET PARADES. Timaru, March 25.
