PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
At the fortnightly meeting of the atoovc council the Mayor (Mv. J. W. M'Ewan) was in the cliair, and there wcro also present '.—Councillors Piper. List, Broekelbaiik, Wiilceliam, Short, Truemau, and Cox. In connection wilh a benefit football match to be jjlayed by tlio Petone Club ill aid of funds for the Petone ambulance vim, the council granted uso of tlie T!o----creation Ground, with leave to charge Gd. admission.
A letter was read from tlio secretary of the Wellington Hugby Union accepting tlio council's offer of Xos. 1, 2, n.ud 3 grounds of tlio liccreation Grounds _ for the coming season, the terms to be einiilar to those of last year. A letter from the lands Department denied that the AVill'ord Settlement was overrun with noxious weeds, and stated that the Herctannga Settlement was now under the control of (he Labour Denartment for the purpose of erecting workers' dwellings.—The council decided to refer the former to the borough inspector and the latter to the Labour Department. Permission to screen snitnWo pictures on Good Friday was granted to the Mnseotte Picture Company, and also to the I'alace Picture Company. }lr. \V. Xorthover ulfered further donations of birds, etc., towards the establish-ment-of a museum at Petone, The use of the Recreation Ground \ws granted to the Peto'.ie Hail way Workshops Cricket Club for a match against a team from tho Auckland workshops.
