TWO SHIPS WRECKED. By Aesoelatlon— Copyright i (Rec. March 24, 5.5 p.m.) I Perth, March 23. i terrific storm occurred at Balla Balla on the north-west coast on Wednesday. The ship Crown of England (1847 tons gross) ; broke in pieces. Eight men aro missing. The ship Coticordia is on the beach intact. There is a fair chanco of refloating her. A number of lighters were wrecked. Tha gale swept, tho north-west coast from Bi-oomo to Roebourno. Telegraphic communication is interrupted. Tho details to hand are meagre. It is known that four persons are dead. The bodies of tho mate and the steward of tho Crown of England have been washed ashore. Seven witnesses at a murder trial were returned from Balla Balla in a lugger when it capsized. Two of them, li' Guinness and Hill, perished. Torrential vain accompanied the gale, and a fall of nino inches is recorded at Tloebourne, where it caused serious floods. GALE IN NEWFOUNDLAND. (Rec. March 24, 5.5 p.m.) St. John's, March 23. A violent gale has been raging on the coast of Newfoundland, Three porsons were drowned in a small boat. A member of the crew of the steamer Portia was washed overboard and drowned. The steamer Erna, bound from Glasgow for St. John's, is twenty days overdue She carries a crew of 27, and is believed to be lost. ' ' : ' Several vessels of the fishing fleet aro missing. FLOODS IN AMEBICA. New York, March 23. Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, reports that ewollen rivers and great floods iu tho Alleghanies are devastating largo areas. Coalmines and factories are shut down in many plnccs, and thousands of workmen ere idle in western Pennsylvania. One death is recorded. The river is flooding the town of Wilmington.
