A handsome oak shield has been presented to the Friendly Societies' Council by Bro. F. Kolfc tor the inter-lodge card competitions.

A comprehensive prize schedule has been compiled for the Manawatu Poultry Association's show to be held in June in conjunction with the Ifanawatu A. and P. Association's dairy show, and will shortly be issued to breeders.

Mr J. T. Ward, president of tho Wanganui Astronomical Society, gave a lecture on "The World of Space as Revealed by the Astronomical Telescope" at the monthly meeting of the Manawalu Philosophical Society last night. The address was illustrated with lantern slides, and proved most interesting.

At a meeting of the comniiltee of the Manawatu Horticultural Society last night the prize schedule for the'autumn show was submitted and approved. A trophy donated by the Mayor was allotted to the class for twelve blooms of chrysanthemums in the open competition. The following judges were appointed:— <'ut. blooms and pot plants, Mr. W. K. Weighlman; fruit and vegetables, Mr. I\ Mayo; decorative and children's elates Mrs. Lethbridgc.
