HOCKEY.
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL EEPOET. Tho annual report of the Wellington Hockey Association congratulates tho members on tho success of hockey during the 1911 season. There wero twentyseven teams competing in the championship contests, divided up as follow;— Six senior teams, thirteen junior teams, and eight third-class teams. In each grade tho honours wore closely contested, and your committee is'gratified that these contests provided the opportunity for keen healthy competition in the game, of hockey for which the association undoubtedly exists. There is no doubt that the standard of play in the several grades has considerably improved. The senior championship honours were won by I ho Karori Hockey Club with an unbeaten record. The junior competition was won by (ho United Hockey Club team, which did not suffer a defeat during the season. The. third-class championship was won by the Government Insurance team for the second time in succession. Representative matches were won against Mauawatu, Marlborough, Canterbury, Hawke's Hay, Nelson, and Otago, and tlio game against Auckland was drawn. The B representatives were defeated by Wairarapa. "Your committee desires to point out" (says the report) "that owing to the necessity of playing the shield matches in Wellington it has been impossible for (his association to send a representative, team away from Wellington during thy past two seasons, and it, strongly submits to tho consideration of the incoming committee the necessity for fulfilling tlio obligations of (.he association to send a team on tour during the incoming season, cis engagements with oilier associations am overdue in both islands. 11. is suggested that this association could fuliii its obligations in this respect without unduly intcrforing with local matches by sending tho representative team north early in tho season, aud south towards the dose of the season. The matter of playing grounds again proved a troublesome ono for your committee, aud it 'regrets that up to tho present its efforts to sccuro further pla.ving areas have been unsuccessful. The financial position of tho association is satisfactory, and your committee desires to point out that in addition to tho ,L'(i fis. due to this association for its share of challenge fees paid by associations for shield contests, the net gate receipts from these games amounted to JCU lis. Your committee this season carried out tho recommendation mado in the last annual report, aud made «a reduction in tho fees payable by affiliated clubs." UNITED CLUB. The annual meeting of the United Hockey Club was held last evening. Mr. T. S. Konaldson presided, and there were II) present. The report and balance-sheet as published in The Dominion - ) wero adopted. An appeal for an effort-to obtain new blood was made. Thc'oninion wts oxnroesed that if tho members "went into training aud dropped Iheir rather easy-going style the club would again be at'the head of affairs. Tho following officers wore elected: Prc-
indent, Mr.' W. E. Pearson; vice-president, Messrs. T. S. Ronaldson, W. E. Bethune, C. A. Richardson, and D. Miller; club captain, Mr. A. W. Organ: hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. C. • Brotherton; committee, Messrs. J. M'Kldowney, IT. V. Walton, and K. L. Thompson;'auditor, Mr. AY. A. Vavitt; and senior selection committee, Messrs. It. L. Thompson, i. M'Kldowney, and 11.
