It is proposed to hold a concert in the winter, half tho programme to bo devoted lo tho "Creation" and half to a scries of concerted pieces. A meeting of the shareholders of tho Cheltenham Dairy Company was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. J.'Bruce in tho chair. The. meeting was not open to the press, but it is understood that a committee, comprising Messrs. J. G. t'obbe, J. C. Hare, D. P. Buchanan, mid W. Cunningham, was set up to confer with tho directors, with a view to placing the concern in a sound financial position, or taking other necessary steps for tho protection of tho shareholders. A proposal to instal a checso factory in the district was also discussed at the meeting. Tho swimming sports organised by the Feiiding District High School were held in tho local baths this week. Though the. weather was rather cold, the youngsters had a good time in the water. There were some good finishes. the afternoon the girls of tho High School dispensed very acceptable afternoon tea aud cakes to the parents and others present.

CARTERTON. The Ground Committee of the TCairarapa and East Coast V. and A. Societ.v meet on tho showgrounds on Monday next, to view tho plans of the roof for the sheep pons, and to arrange for calling for tenders for same. The Programme Committco will moot in the afternoon to arrange for tho ploughing match. Miss li. Feist, teacher at Cnrrington School, met with u. painful accident on Friday morning. She was riding to school when her horso shied at somo object on tho side of tho road and she was thrown, her shoulder being badly dislocated. Drs. Johnston and Gnnn reduced the dislocation, and placed the sufferer in a fair way to recovery. At St. Mark's Church, Carterton, on Friday afternoon, Bishop Sprott, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Williams, Maori Missions, held a confirmation service for the members of the Clnrcville Native College. During the present week a meeting of settlers was held at Longbush to discuss the matter of telephone installation between thero and Carterton. A number present intimated their intention of joining in the schenie now inaugurated, and a hope was expressed that the business people of Carterton would do their littlo to assist tho project.
