INSTITUTE FORMED. 4 project in which all local Government and civil engineers will bo interested was vtsterday placed on a satisfactory looting bv a general moating oitho.-'e interested held in the Lecture Hull of the Institute of Murine Kngineers of Australasia, which was kindly placed at their disposal by the executive. About thirty engineers wero prosent, some having travelled hundreds of miles from tho extremes of both islands and a similar number ot apologies wero received from those, unable to attend. After an' interesting discussion upon the aims and objects of such an institute it was niiaiiimnuslv resolved to form the Institute of Lccal Government .Kngincers of Netf Zealand. The following ollicers wero elected: l'rcsident, Mr. S. ,lickell (L'almersLon North; vice-presidents, Messrs. S. Mnir (llnntcrville), H. S. Koiinthwaito (Wellington); council, Messrs. Brenmer (South Canterbury), Dillon (I'ahiatua), Clias. Banks (Waitaki), Roche (Lower llutt), M'Guinness (Christchurch), \rmstrong (l'almorston Xorth), Williams (Dunedin), Patterson (Ciisbornc), nnsham (Eltham), Wright (Paten), Shannon (Auckland), and Thompson (Westport); lion. see. nnd treasurer, Messrs. S. Mnir and H. Harding. A good deal of formal business was disposed of and the meeting adjourned till to-da;r to received the report of a sub-committee set up to frame by-laws. It was also decided to send a deputation from the newly-formed institute to lay before tho Miiiistor for Internal Affairs several matters of concern to its members. '
