IBy Telegraph—Press Assoctatlon.l Christchurch, March 20. At Addington live stock market there were against largo entries of stock, and a good attendance. Fat cattle showed a decided fall in prices. Store sheep again sold well, and there was practically no change in fat lambs. Fat wethers sold a.t late rates, and ewes wove much easier. Pigs also sold at last week's rates. A heavy offering of store sheep again camo forward, representing all classes, but ewes formed the largest porportion, the balance being mado up of lambs, 'and a few pens of wethers. There was a keen demand for all classes from a large attendance of buyers, and late rates were fully maintained. Young ewes and lambs were in most request, and while other descriptions wero not. so eagerly sought after, they sold well. Wethers were in short supply. as usual of late, and they met with a good rale. The range of prices was:—2-tooth ewes, 14s. 3d. to ISs.; 4-tooth, 165.; 4, 6, and 8-tooth, 12s. 7d. to 14s. 9d.; sound-mouth, 10s. to 15s. 3d.; culls, ss. Od. lo Bs.; merinos 2s. 6d. to ss. 6d.; 2-tooth wethers, te. 6d. to 14s. 7d.; mixed ages. 10s. to 15s. 2d.; ewe lambs, H>s. 3d. to 13s. 5d.; mixed sexes, ss. 4d. to
There was an entry of 6720 fat lambs, and though there wore sone better lines offered last week; the average quality showed a slight improvement on this occasion. At the same time, however, there were a number of lots that required more finish, and these consequently brought only forward store prices. For all lots suitable for export there was a good demand, and prices were about on a par with those oi last week, and In some ;asas a shade firmer, in sympathy with the rates ruling at country sales during the week. Tegs made 16s. 9d to 19s. 9d.; ordinary freezers, !2s. 6d. to 16s. 6d.; buteheris' lambs, lij. 7d. to 155.; and an extra heavy pen, 21s. 6d. Several tots were taken by graziers at lis. to 145.; and a few other lir.es were withdrawn at lis. lOd. to 15s. Id. Shorn lamhs made lis. lOd. to lis. 7d.
There was a large entry of fat eheep, the bulk of which was ewes. Included in the wethers were some lines of heavy sheep, which accounts for some of the higher prices realised, as compared with la<st week. Ewes of all classes were easier, especially the aged and inferior sorts, which were down fully Is. per head, the better classes' of ewes meeting with more competition from the export buyers. Wethers were firm, without any. improvement in values. The range of prices was: —Prime wethers, 17s. 6d. to ©3.; lighter, 14s. to Us.; prime ewes, 13s. to 17s. 3d.; others, 9s. to 12s. 6d.
The entry of fat cattle totalled 204 head, cows forming the largest portion, and the balance was chiefly useful sorts of steers and heifers. The sale was a very dragging one, and prices declined to an extent equal to 2s. per 1001b. Steers made £8 to £11; heifers, £6 to £9 2s. 6d.; and cows, £5 10s. to £8 10s., equal to 20s. to 253.. per lCOlh.
Veal calves formed a small entry, and sold at 6s. to 565., according to weight and quality. There was a small yarding of store cattle, chiefly young sorts, and including two lines of 15 to 18-months cattle from Southland. The demand was not very active, and prices were easier. Yearlings made 345.; 15 to 18-monl.h.s, £2 !6s. lo £3 155.; 2-year stores, £4 155.; 2-ycar heifers, £4 10s. to £4 13=.; and dry cows, 365. to £4 lis.: dairy cows. £4 to £10.
There waa a small yarding of pigs, and there was no change in the prices of fats and stores, except weaners. These again were in good demand.
