NATIONAL ART GALLERY.
« THE BAILLIE COLLECTION. The New Zealand Academy of Fine Aril received advice yesterday that tho first consignment of pictures selected by Mr. John Baillie for exhibition in Wellington in connection with the establishment of the proposed National Gallery will arrive by tho'Atheaic, which is due on Saturdiiv. Their value is estimated at Over ,£IO,OOO. It is understood that Mr. Baillie, who is expected to arrive next AVcdnesday, is bringing with him a second consignment of equal value. To-night a deputation, consisting of lopreseiihtives of tho art societies, educational, an.) kindred institutions, and members of Parliament, will wait upon Iho City Council to ask for u subsidy for tho purchase of pictures.
