A meeting of tho Trades Council was held last night, and it is understood that a man' was selected to stand in the Labour interest, but nothing was disclosed to the press after the meeting. Labour's choice, it is believed, will be either Mr. D. M'LaroD or Mr. A. H. Hindmarsh, M.P. . AUCKLAND. (By Teleerttßfl— Preai Auoclatlon.! Auckland, March 20, Tho executive committees of twenty* Eoven trades unions met last night to select the names of prospective candidates, any one of whom the unionists of the city would be to support in the Mayoral election. A sub-commit-tee, of six was empowered to Interview the candidates, and to ascertain what measure of support would likely be given to the unionist cause. This committee will report to a general meeting of unionists, to be held to-morrow night, when the final choice will be made, of tho Labour candidate for the Mayoralty.

Tho indications aro that the Mayoral election this year will be marked by exceptionally heavy polling. Applications for enrolment on the municipal electors' roll have reached quite an unprecedented number. t
