CITY TRAMWAY FINANCE. City Councillor L. M'Kenzio has asked tho I'ramways C'ommitlee of tho council ■for a return showing:— i 1. The amount of the tramway depreciation 01; renewal fund at the cud of overy financial year since tiio inauguration of Mio system. 2. (a) Whero the fund is now invested. What slims have baen invested during every financial year of tho department's existence. (L>) What interest has been earned on investments during every financial year. 8. (a) What part or parts of the depreciation and renewal fund has, or have, been used to provido new buildings, or extensions or additions to the lines or other parts of the undertaking, (b) Whether any interest has been paid in respect of moneys so used, and, if so, at what rate, (c) If no interest has hem paid on moneys so used, what sum would such interest amount to at compound interest at i per cent on March 31. 1012, interest being charged from the date of the using of such moneys with yearly rests on March !!1 in every year. i. What amount is now available in cash or investments for the purposes of renewals. 5. Whether tho corporation will be in a position, when so required, to find tho moneys required for the renewal of the lines in tho central portion of tho city without asking the ratepayers for a loan. (i. Whether, if the interest had been charged as suggested in Paragraph 3 hereof, the tramway system would have, in every financial "year, shown a loss or a profit, and, in everv year, what loss, or what profit, would have been shown. 7. What amounts tho Tramwav Department has paid in every financial year for work dono by other departments. S. To what extent the Tramway Department. receives preferential treatment in respcct of charges for water.
