(From Our Own Correspondent.) Masterton, March 18. 'The 'Wnirarapa Caledonian Society decidetl on Saturday last to have a photograph of its directors taken, ond to present an enlarged copy to Mr- H. \V. Kobson, ono of the directors, who.is nbout to leave for Tiinaru. The Masterton Technical School opens to-night for the current year. It is proposed, should sufficient'inducement offer to establish a veterinary class in connection with the school. .Mr. D. Pryor, who is severing his connection with tho Masterton branch of the Y.M.C.A., of which ho has been a most useful member, was last evening presented by the members with a Rold-muunt-ec! fountain pen. As a token of appreciation of his many public services, Mr. J. L. Langdon, of Tiinii, was rc-co'.itly presented by his fel-low-!.cUlcrs with s handsome silver tea nnd coffee service and an illuminated address. Tho presentation was made, in a neat speech, by Jlr. A. Groves. Bandmaster Hutchison, cf the Masterton Municipal Band, was entertained at a smoke concert in the Coronation Hall this evening bv the members of the baud. ,At the conclusion of the yervice at (he Methodist Church last evening, Jlr. O. Pragnoll. tho senior steward, mentioned tho'Vad bereavement which had befallen the Itev. i>. J. Scrpell in the loss of Iris wife. The congrp£;ation stood as tho lay preacher recited tin , deceased's lady's favourite Psalm. . ■ 'Harvest festival services were conducted in St. Matthew's Church yesterday. The church was specially decorated for the occasion. The firo brigades turned out promptly to an alarm of fire on Saturday eveniug. The cause of t'no outbreak was a burning shod at the rear of the residence of Jlrs. Treader in Short Street. The shed wns completely destroyed, but the main buildinii was saved.
