JOCKEY'S DEATH.
CBt Telecrapli— Press Asseclatlon.l Auckland, March 18. An inquest into the death of Jockey Whittakur, killed at Ohiuemnri races on Saturday, was held at Paeroa yestorday. Kvidence was given , by Mr. ninn, uncle of the deceased, and owner ot M'lmiwern, the horse deceased was riding. Jockeys J. O'Sliea, J. .1. Koach. and \V. T. Ayre gave evidonco to the <\lfect that tlicre" was no jostling or bumping in tho race, and that all the horses had a clear Ayre; who was riding Watchchnin and was" about two lengths behind deceased's mount at the time of the accident, stated thai when Mamnvorn. foil ho skidded with deceased for about ten yards, Wliittnkc-r hitting his head on one of the posts suuportiug the rails. . ,---•■.,,,. Dr. 0. T. Smith, in evidence, stated that he «xamint'd the deceased' after fhe accident, and found that he was unconscious, suffering from u depressed fraotnro of the base of the skull.
