(From Cut Special Correspondent.) » LOWER HUTT COURT. A sitting of the Police Court was held at Lower Ilutt yesterday, Messrs. Chapman, Wilkin, and Ciulby, Justices of the Peace, being on the bench. Martin Coogan, an old Army pensioner, iwns charged by the police with being an idle and disorderly person. Ho pleaded guilty, but asked for another chance, which'was granted. Defendant was discharged with n caution. Alexander Mattison, for using obscene language, was fined .63, in default 14 days. Hβ was also ordered to pay IBs. witnesses' expenses. THE PETONE MAYORALTY. A large and representative deputation of householders', including Indies, waited upon the Mayor of Petone in his room last evening to ask him to consent to nomination for the office of Mayor of Petone for another term. In reply, Mr. M'Kwan said that he had been asked by so many people lo accept nomination for the position of Mayor that he had decided lo stand again. (Applause.) At a subsequent mooting it was resolved that all present should form themselves into n committee to further Mr. M'Kwasi's candidature. Mr. W. Wakolin was appointed secretary. A systematic canvas of (lie borough was decided upon. A meeting is to bo hold on Thursday night to report progress; JOTTINGS. Harvest festival services were conducted throughout the day p.t St. David's Church, Petone, on Sunday. Tho church was appropriately decorated with an abundance of harvest gifts. Special hymns were rendered by the choir and children. Tho Rev. A. Thomson was tho preacher. Tin. Ilorohning<\ Boating Club held its annual cruise of tho harbour on Saturday afternoon. The Duchess left Petono Wharf with about SOO people on bonrd, mid proceeded lo the Heads, touching the ISaysi thence to Wellington, and round tho island, arriving back at Petono at 5 p.m. The weather was perfect, and altogether an enjoyable time was spent. Tho second popular lecture in connection with the Lower Hull Municipal Library was held in the Council Chambers last night. Tho boisterous weather was responsible for a. Miiall audience, but nevertheless tho lecture on "Roses and their Cultivation" (by Mr. C. Trcvelliiek), was most interesting. The Moyor, Mr. E. V. Bunny, occupied the chair, and the lecturer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks at the close.
