A watCT-Foftonim process, origma'cd in Germany and already in successful \va on tiie Great Northern Runway v> England, has recently been introduced into Now York, and is arousing keen interest. The process has boon installed on an experimental scale at one of the Standard Oil Company's plants, and also at a point on the New* York Central railroad. It uppeai's to bo successful. The process consists in allowing boiler-fetl wo tor to flow in a thin film down a steadily inclined aluminium plate, cxposod to the full rays of the sun. No chemical change "between top and bottom of the plate can bo detected, but on evaporation in a boiler, the water thus treated forms an impalpable sediment instead of the usual hard scale, and not only this, but it will decompose any scale previously accumulated from untreated water. The causes of this phenomenon are obscure, but. the aluminium plate mid the. sunshine vecrn to be essential elements. After treatment, the water can be stored overnight, or through a cloudy season without loss of its virtues. The W.wcaniii River Steamer Service tiolifics '.hat special trips will be run from Wauganui to Pipiriki (luring Easter week, leaving Wangamii Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, nnd Easter Sunday at 7 a.m.;, returning tho folloVing days, Saturday excursionists returning on F.ister Monday.
