AN UNREDEEMED PLEDGE.

ROSS RAILWAY EXTENSION. 1 (From a Correspondent.) Hokitika, March 18. Much was made during the recent edection of the promise of .£3OOO for the extension of the Ross railway to Jlilconm, and the good news was blazoned forth in every quarter of South Westland. but like a good many other promises, the one for the Ito'VS railway extension still stands unredeemed. At the last meeting of the Ross Borough Council it was decided to ngain wire to the member for the district asking what was-being done. A few days before the last election a parly of surveyors went down to Ross, and it was publicly announced that they had been instructed to seo about ai-ranb'iu'j for tho expenditure of the promised .£SOOO. A day or two after the election the surveyors were recalled to Christchurch, and have not been seen in the district since. I hose jvho place any reliance on the Government's promises are beginning to iwl troubled, for the lust day of March approaches and nothing has hcen done.
