SURVEYORS' EXAMINATION.
BEGUN' YESI'ERDAY. A surveyors' examination; which is hell every six months bv the Xew Zealand Surveyors' Board, commenced in (ho Dominion Museum yesterday, and will bo continued during' (he rot of the week. 'J , ho members of the examining hoard are: Messrs. }. Strntichan (Surveyor-General), Tims, Humphries (d former Sui'veyor-Gcit-oral), T. SI. Brodriek (Chief Surveyor at Christehurch), 11. gladden (of (he local iii in of Seaton and Sladdcn), and J. W. Harris (an Auckland purveyor). Messrs. Slndden and Harris are nominees of the New Zealand Surveyors' Institute, and the other members of the board are- Oovernment nominees. Mr. C. E. Adams is secretary to thq board. Twenty-six persons have presented themselves for examination from all pnrts of New Zealand. Ten are. new 'jfudidntes, tho others have partly parsed at previous examination?. Yesterday was devoted mainly to examining the candidates In practical work, astronomy, tho uso OS instruments, i«nd so forth. For (lie purposes of this examination, New Zetland is fcdwalwi with the six Austrnlinn Shtes. Exnminations aro held simultaneously, in each Stale, and In Now Zealand, once in every six month?. Uniform papers and tests are set, the members of the federation taking it in turns to draw them up. On (his occasion tho examination has bcei ret by the Surveyors' Bowl in West Australia. A candidate passing tho examination in any of tho Sfatos or in New Zealand is entitled to practice as a surveyo , : throughout Aua. traksin.
