FAST SPRINTING.

4 . POSTLE BEATS DONALDSON.' NEW WORLD'S RECORDS. - (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, March 17. The St. Patrick's Day. Sports, held at the Auckland Domain on Saturday afternoon, attracted about 15,000 people. Tho principal event wn-s the meeting of J. Donaldson, tho world's sprint champion, and Arthur Postle, the'ex-champion, over three distances, 75yds., 150 yds., and 200 yds. Thero was great enthusiasm when Poslle won all three', after probably the finest races yet seen in New Zealand. In tho 75yds. run Postlo equalled his world's record, and in the other two ho established new world's records. Tlio times were taken by experienced timekeepers, and the track ivin«asured after the races, mid found to be quito correct. The rains of the previous day had left the truck a trille heavy, and thero was a good breeze, rather against the runners, but Pottle had been doing so well in training that he anticipated putting up fine times. He ran marvellously well, and Donaldson also ran splendidly, for there was not much between the two men. All threo races were run in tapes over tho straight course. 11l tho 75yds. both men roso together at tho start, but at tho ten yards Postie shot out at a terrific pace, and at 50yds. was about two yards ahead. Donaldson made a great effort at the finish, but Postlo won by a yard and a half. Time, 7 l-ssec. In the second heat, the 150 yds., both men again started together, but at 20yds.. Postlo was a few inches in front, and' going at a great pace, he increased his lead, until at 100 yds. he was about two yards ahead. Donaldson put in a great finishing effort, but Postlo had sufficient left to throw himself at the tape, and win by a foot. Time, 14 l-ssec.' Another fine start was effected in the 200 yds., but Postle was first to get into top speed, and led by nearly two yards at 100 yds. In tho next fifty yards Donaldson slightly reduced the gap, but Postle held him well, and won by a yard and a half. Time, lOscc. Both men gave a rare revelation of speed. Other events on the programme included amateur and professional sprint races; a cycle race, tug-of-war tournament, and displays by children. The Sheffield Handicap, of 120 yds., was won by M. Harrison (13yds.), with F. J. Treanor (11yds.), 2, in 11 4-ssec. The Three-mile Cycle Race. wns_won easily by E. W. Burton (45yds.) from J. Adlam (scratch). The police team won. tho lug-of-war against six other teams. Postle leaves to-ninht, to appear at the sports meeting at Blenheim on Wednesday, and will return to run at Wnihi and Te Kuiti.
