9 • (Before Mr. W. G. Iliddcll, S.M.) A SURETY'S PLEA. A womnn who had stood as surety (in .C 80) for Thomas Henderson, alias Burbidge—on bail respecting n charge of opening a number of telegrams—applied to bo relieved of tho responsibility she had undertaken. She alleged thnt tho accused intended to go to Auckland. .Mr. A. L. llcrdmaii represented Henderson. His Worship refused to discharge tho surely. Ho said that tho application should have been supported by evidence in addition to the incro word of the applicant. There was no evidence that the step alleged was contemplated; not even evidence that Henderson hud purchased a ticket. A FRACTIOUS PERSON. Robert Henry Steel was charged with having used bad language, and with having damaged a pano of glass. On tho first charge defendant was fined £.). Respecting the second offence ho was fined l(k, and was ordered to pay for tho property destroyed. OTHER CASES. William Ticrney was found guilty of haying broken his prohibition order. He was ordered to spend ?2 months at the Koto Hoa Institute for Inebriates. Floveme M'Anallv \yas fined £2 for a breach of her prohibition order. His Worship warned her Hint persistence in insobriety woilll result ill her being sent In one'of the homes for inebriates. William Hrcw was fined £i for a breach of his prohibition order. For 'lisjbriofy, .lohn Cameron was fined .El, and .Martin Sniniiehon 10s.
