Mr. 1 , , Holly, Conciliation Commissioner, left Wellington yesterday for Wanganui, to investigate an industrial dispute at the freeziu£ works there. Mr. Donald Wilson, who was educated at Wellington College, and obtained his medical degree at Edinburgh University, will return to Great Britain by. the Sussex next month. He cam* oiit in the Matatua, in December last. Mr. A. E. Kornot, head of the firm of A.'E: Kerriot aifiXyCqV Ltd., who left for L.hglaild last'evening; was entertained at the Grand Hotel on Thursday evening -by the members of the Wellington Wine ami Spirit Merchants, and presented with a pail , of field glasses and a gold cigarette case. Mr. Brendan Quirk, chief clerk of the Experimental Farms Division of tho Agricultural Department, died last night at his residence, Karori, after a somewhat prolonged illness. Ho was tho eldest son of the late Mr. W. Quirk, solicitor, of Melbourne, and of Mrs. Clarry now of Melbourne. Ho leaves a wife (neo Miss Alice Maginnity) and family of three children. His relatives in New Zealand mo Mrs. Charles Cimino, of Karori, and Sister Placidus, of the Blenheim Convent. Mr. H. H. Keyword left Auckland per s.b. Maheno for bydney on Monday last. Mr. John Farrell, who was advance agent for tho H. B. Irving Company throughout the recent record tour in New Zealand, was presented by Mr. Irving with a solid silver cigarctto case, suitnbly inscribed, as a tokon of esteem, and of his appreciation of Mr. Tamil's good work "on tho road." Sub-lieutenant E. Q. Rhodes has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and reappointed to the Cambrian, in lieu of a 6ub-lieutenant. Mr. Rhodes is a son of Mr. Gi H. Rhodes, formerly of Clarcmont, South Canterbury, and received a Now Zealand nomination. Ho passed out of Greenwich Naval Sohool with six firsts, and received fourteen months' seniority in consequence. Mr. P. Chevossus, of Dargavillo, hns been appointed to succeed Mr. R. W. Robson as editor of the "Wairarapa Daily Times," Bays our special correspondent. Mr. Allen Strang, of Palmerston North, was a passenger to Sydney by the Moana last evening. ' The Hon. E. C. J.' Stevens, M.L.C., arrived in Wellington by tho Maori yesterday morning. Mr. A. F. George, of the firm of Monsre. Gtorgo and George, left on a (Tip to Melbourne by the Sloana Inst evening. Mr. J. M. Muir, of the managerial staff Df Joseph Nathan and Co., who is going xtroad, was met at the Grand Hotel on I'hursday by the members of the Wellington Merchants' Association, who. through Mr. Geor,;o Shirtcliffe, presented him with a gold sovereign caso. Tho recipient's health was drunk, and all good wishes wore, expressed for his welfare ibroad. Mr. Jfuir is about to mako a lengthy 6tay in the Old Country, part if which time he will bo connected with :ho London ofh'co of Messrs. Nathan nnd Jo.
