Ho remained in Bendigo from 18!) li till 1890, during which period most of his work consisted in superintending the Headers' or Catechisls districts, throughout that portion of , Victoria which now forms the Dioceses of Bendigo and AVnngnrattn. Some tirao previous to this Canon Sadlicr had resinned his studies in connection with tho university, which work had been interrupted in 1890 by an attack of typhoid fever. In 1894 ho took tho B.A. degree in the Melbourne University, with final honours in tho School of Logic and Mental and Moral Philosophy. Ho. also read law for a'year with Mr. J. T. Collins, who is now chief Law Draughtsman of the Government of Victoria, but ho found his other work, especially his many parochial duties, too pressing, and he decided not to pursue

Two years later (in I'M) he had the honour of being elected by the Synod of tho Diocese of Melbourne to the position of Canon of St; Paul's Cathedral. 110 was then only 34 years of age, and was probably the youngest Canon in Australia. In addition to his many other duties of various kinds, Canon Sadlier in 1899 became associated with tho late Dean Vance as co-editor of "The Church of England Messenger," and is still connected with this publication. In 1901 he paid a visit to England, and on his return to Melbourno was appointed Vicar of Christ Church, St. Kilda. Canon Sadlier is a member of . the Council of the Diocese of Melbourne, a body whose duty it is to adviso tho Archbishop on all Temporal matters connected with tho Church, and is a member of the Cathedral Chapter. Ho was appointed to this latter position in 1901, and is now the senior canon on active service. Ho is also a member of the Bishopric Election Board. His high scholastic attainments have been put to good use in many ways in the servico of the Church. Having served three years in the ranks, ho will probably be permitted to go on tho reserve list, and to obtain tho decoration for long service. Canon Sadlier is known (says the Melbourne "Argus") not only as a most scholarly churchman, but as a very eloquent preacher as well, and it is considered amongst his colleagues and coworkers that Nelson is taking away a man that will b every much missed in Melbourne.
