Leprous, a clerk at tho central offlco of tho Suez Canal Company, who disappeared in October after suspicion had fallen upon him in connection with the fraudulent appropriation of shares to the value of .£BO,OOO. Of tho sum which he is alleged to havo seized only .C2GBO is left. The investigations instituted bv tho Public Prosecutor at Paris brought out that Leprous had been for forno timo engaged in speculations on the Bourse, and that for this purpose ho hod misapproprialcd Rhnres which had been deposited ut tho offices of tho company as security for loans. Lopreux, who is 54 years of age, entered the scrvico of tho company as nn office boy at tho ago of 14, and hail gradually risen to a position of condolence, in which ho received a salary of dCCfiO n year. Ho was reported to havo confessed his crime in a letter to tho director of tho central oflico nnd to have explained his speculations by a desiro to provide a dowry for his daughter.
