It is not generally known that between 1769, the (late o> Captain Cook's discovery of New Zealand, and l&iO there were no fewer than tea expeditions of exploration Bent to Now Zealand with various objects, the first of them, arriving in December, 1760, shortly after Captain Cook. Compte de Fleurieu, who is at' present touring tho world, is taking special interest in the records of early French exploration in Australasia, nn( T his <jc«ire is to 'commemorate tlio work of v.irinus Expeditions wherever possible, preferably ny tho erection of a monument at their first landing-places, or whew any notable event occurred. While in ' Wellington he will: interview the Minister-in-Chargo of the Tourist Department, in regard to tho erection of a suitable monument at Houi JW eallotl by the Marion expedition Bay de Trahison. ■
