WANQANUI JOTTINGS.
(By Teleeraah.—Sneelftt Gorrpinondent.l Wannanul, March 15. A .proposal is afoot among a number of Durio Hill and town residents to float a company to construct a tunnel and shaft in the iace of the (hill fronting tho river, and run an electric lift for the conveyance of passengers and goods from tho bottom to tho top of the hill and vico versa. It is understood:that the proposed shaft and elevator will bo on somewhat similar lines to that recently outlined by tho Wellington. City Engineer at the instance of his council to servo tho convenience of residents living on higher portions of the city not served by tho trains. Owing to tho bad weather , prospects, .the Beautifying Society's-feto has been ttill further postponed till Thursday next.
