ST. PETER'S CLUB.

ANNI'AE MEETING. The annual general meeting of St. Peter's Club wns held last evening, the president (Archdeacon Harper) presiding over a largo attendance of members. A special vote of thanks was passed to Mr. G. Lawrence and Mr. G. Bell, in recognition of their services as treasurer and secretary during the last seven years. A motion was passed, that a presentation of somo kind be made to these officers. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, the V'en. Archdeacon Harper, M.8.; vicepresidents, thb Rev. \\. liaine, the Rev. AV. A. Cross, Messrs. J. Goer, ,1. T. Rash, and J. E. Perry; trustees, the Hon. Hamilton Gilmer, and Lieutenant-Colonel Hume; committee, Messrs. G. Bell, J. Harrison, 15. \V. Millier, G. W. Morgan, and A. G. Williams; ihon. secretary, Mr. F. G. Major; lion, treasurer, Mr. G. Lnwronco; librarian, Mr. R. Walton. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following is a precis of the annual report: —The club has had a continued existence for fourteen yenrs, and while its present position '■ is not one' which can be viewed with entire satisfaction, yet there is no reason why tho future should not bo full of hope in tho club again becoming a strong agency in the work of the Church in tho parish. Tho Rev. G. P. Davys was elected an honorary life member. The Rev. C. G. Mutter has left the parish; and therefore is no longer a vicepresident, but tho Rev. AV. A. Cross will take his place as one of tho assistant curates of the parish. There are now G3 active and U honorary members on tho books. The financial position, as shown by the balance-sheet, is strong, the actual available balance being; M\ is., but this again is somewhat misleading, as thero would have been a smaller balnnce than last year but for generous gifts from two who have always voluntarily helped the club, the Hon." Hamilton Gilmer and Colonel Edward Pearce, to whom outgrateful thanks arc duo. Lectures were given during the year by Dr. Fyffo, Mr. H. B. Diw. and Mr. J. W. Poynton. Tho thanks of tho club are due to theso gentlemen. A very successful concert was organised in November in aid of the Taranaki Street Mission, bringing in a profit of .£ll Bs. Gd., and several social evenings and meetings with other olubs wero held. Looking to tho future, members must realiso that the club has reached a critical- point in its history. Either tho club must becomo what it is intended to be, namely, a means of providing wholesomo recreation, social intercourse, and mutual improvement for young men in connection with tho work of the Church under whose shadow it meets, or else it must cease to.exist. The committee confidently anticipate that it will retain its position as an old and honoured branch of the parish work, because thoso members who are most active are desirous that it should do so. It will be for the incoming committee to devise and .carry out means to give new lifo to the club. The billiard-table will have to be renovated, and this will now be possible, and so wo may hope to see it well patronised again. The thanks of the club are due to Mr. G. Lawrence and Mr G. Bell, _who for seven years have held the positions of treasurer and secretary.
